7 Home Remedies To Get Rid Of DandruffThe little white flakes that come off your head when you brush your hair are known as dandruff. Dandruff is a common problem today and it can be caused by seborrheic dermatitis which is a skin condition. Dandruff is also often caused by dry scalp, psoriasis and eczema. But, the good thing is that dandruff is extremely treatable. Apart from over the counter shampoos that are especially created to treat dandruff, there are some effective home remedies that can also be used. Here’s a look at 7 easy ways to say goodbye to dandruff.

1. Baking soda

Some ingredients in your kitchen can be very helpful when it comes to getting rid of dry skin flakes from your hair, but the most effective one is baking soda. Baking soda is a mild exfoliant and it can help absorb excess oil and remove flaky skin cells. In addition to this, baking soda can help maintain the pH balance on the scalp and prevent further growth of fungus or bacteria that can cause dandruff. To use baking soda as an effective natural remedy for dandruff, you can wet your hair and rub baking soda on the scalp. You will need about three tablespoons of baking soda. Once you have applied it thoroughly on the scalp, you can rinse it off with plain water. Although this may cause your hair to become dry as you will be skipping the shampoo, you will soon be able to get rid of dandruff.

2. White vinegar

Since it is an acetic acid, it can prevent fungal growth on your scalp. You can add two cups of water to one cup of vinegar and rinse your hair with this solution after you shampoo your hair. You can also use a mixture of vinegar, water and olive oil to massage your scalp before washing your hair.

3. Mouthwash

Mouthwash has anti fungal properties and it can be used as an effective treatment for dandruff. After you shampoo your hair, rinse it with a mouthwash and then condition as usual. Mouthwash will prevent yeast formation on the scalp.

4. Lemon juice

Lemon juice is a good cure for dandruff. All you need to do is massage your scalp with two tablespoons of the juice and rinse with water. Then take a tablespoon of lemon juice and mix this in one cup of water for the final rinse. Repeating this treatment daily will help you eliminate dandruff.

5. Aspirin

Aspirin contains salicylic acid which is also a common ingredient in many dandruff shampoos. You can keep flaky skin cells at bay by crushing two aspirins and mixing it with your regular shampoo. So when you have to wash your hair, you use the shampoo with powered aspirin and leave it on your hair for about 2 minutes. Rinse off and use plain shampoo.

6. Coconut oil

Another good remedy for dandruff is coconut oil. Simply massage your scalp with coconut oil and leave it on for few hours. Wash your hair with your regular shampoo. Repeating this treatment two or three times a week will help you get rid of dandruff.

7. Table salt

Table salt is abrasive in nature and this property can help scrub out flaky skin cells. Simply put some salt on your scalp and massage until you have worked out the dead skin cells. Wash your hair and repeat once or twice a week.
